Purim is a joyous festival that commemorates the salvation of the Jewish people in ancient Persia, as told in the Book of Esther (Megillah) which is read during the holiday. It is a time to remember and celebrate the triumph of good over evil and to be with friends and family. Giving gifts, helping those in need, dressing up in costumes, and participating in parades and other activities, are fun and important aspects of the holiday.
